This week really sorted out the MVFC playoff field. The UND vs. NDSU game this weekend is the only Valley game with any real significance. I know I will certainly be watching!
Again, FBS losses are not considered but FBS wins weigh in the selection process. The records below reflect the removal of FBS losses.
Locks
SDSU (10-0)
The Jackrabbits should be a top-2 seed. Simply a tremendous regular season and now they have a chance to get healthy and rest up before the big playoff push.
NDSU (8-1)
Came from behind to beat an SIU squad that was fighting for its playoff life. Injuries are starting to stack up for the Bison. Huge matchup this week vs. UND. If UND upsets the Bison on Saturday, NDSU will not be guaranteed a seed and may have to play in the opening round of the playoffs.
On The Bubble
UND (7-2)
UND won against USD this week but it wasn’t a super clean game. UND must play up to their full potential to finally take down the Bison, who they haven’t beat in the D1 era. NDSU is ripe for an upset loss due to how they have struggled this season and now that injuries are piling up.
Hoping for Chaos
YSU (6-3)
YSU dropped their game against Missouri State this week. This was simply a game they couldn’t lose. When you look at resumes, YSU really doesn’t stack up with the other bubble teams who will have 7, 8, or 9 wins. I really don’t think they have a chance but technically a 7 win MVFC team will get some consideration.
Eliminated
SIU (5-5)
Beating NDSU was their only hope of making the playoffs. Getting to six wins won’t do it this year even with an FBS win!
Illinois State (5-4)
The Redbirds put up a good fight for a half against SDSU. Unfortunately they don’t have the depth to go with their top-end talent.
